Moonshine in Marshall

THIS SUNDAY, July 17th 3pm join us @ THE FBI for a BOOK READING by author CHARLES D. THOMPSON. JR. from his SPIRITS OF JUST MEN: Mountaineers, Liquor Bosses, and Lawmen in the Moonshine Capital of the World (University of Illinois Press) WITH BLUEGRASS/ AMERICANA MUSIC by Seth Rhinehart & friends.
Spirits of Just Men tells the story of moonshine in 1930s America and chronicles the Great Moonshine Conspiracy Trial of 1935, which made national news and exposed the far-reaching and pervasive tendrils of Appalachia’s local moonshine economy. Thompson, whose ancestors were involved in the area’s moonshine trade and trial as well as local law enforcement, draws from extensive oral histories and local archival material. Self-hypnosis for Healing Insight. With Kristin Prevallet, M.A., C.H.
June 21st, 2011 § 1 Comment
Join us July 9 from 3-5 PM @ the FBI for a 2-hour self-hypnosis workshop with poet and certified hypnotist Kristin Prevallet! Enrollment for the workshop is $25, payable on the 9th at the FBI. An informal performance will follow the workshop.
Here’s a brief description of the experience, to whet your appetites:
We begin with the belief that the mind and the body are one sympathetic and collaborative system that can, through the power of inner focus, guide the process of healing what needs to be healed physically, spiritually, and psychologically. In this workshop you will learn powerfully integrative self-hypnosis techniques that you can bring home to your daily life that will help you to gain perspective and insight into your healing journey.
A little more about Kristin:
Kristin Prevallet is a hypnotist certified through the National Guild of Hypnotists and a Mental Health Coach working on her certification through the International Association of Counselors and Therapists. She is a writer who is the author of four books, including I, Afterlife: Essay in Mourning Time and she has taught courses on Investigative Poetics at Naropa Institute and The New School. She is currently teaching an ongoing writing and somatic process workshop on Trance Poetics. She combines integrative methods of hypnosis, energy psychology, and life coaching in her work with clients at her office in New York. She maintains a blog at trancepoetics.com and recent writings are forthcoming in Fourth Genre, Spoon River Review, and the Drunken Boat.
Hope to see you there!
